How GATE Exam Marks are Calculated

The GATE Exam Marks are calculated based on the actual number of marks secured by a candidate in the exam out of 100, it depends on the 65 number of questions and the marks obtained. Usually the GATE Exam consists of 65 questions and these questions hold 100 marks including the negative marking β…“. So, marks are something that a candidate will achieve out of 100, depending on performance decides their Score.

GATE Exam Normalization of Marks

GATE 2023 exam is conducted in several sessions. In order to account for any differences in the difficulty levels of the question papers across different sessions, a suitable normalization is applied to these papers. The fundamental idea behind normalization is that "the distribution of candidate abilities in all multi-session GATE papers is the same across all the sessions." The Normalization of GATE Marks will be calculated based on the given formula.

How GATE Score is calculated from Marks Normalization ?

GATE Score is calculated using the actual marks obtained by the candidate for one session paper. The Normalized marks will be calculated according to the candidate’s raw marks. Here’s the formula to calculate the score from Rank

How GATE Rank is Calculated based on Score?

One of the notable aspects of the GATE results is the calculation of the GATE Rank, which is based on the candidate's score obtained in the examination. The All India Rank, thus obtained, serves as a determining factor for the candidate's admission into postgraduate programs at IITs, NITs, colleges, and institutes.
